Sullia: Man sentenced in theft and escape-from-custody cases

Sullia, Jun 6: The senior civil judge and JMFC Court in Sullia has convicted and sentenced A M Aziz, a resident of Ajjavara, in two separate cases involving theft and escape from police custody.

In the case related to escaping from police custody registered at Sullia police station in 2018 under Section 224 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the court sentenced the accused to one year of simple imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000. In default of payment of the fine, he will have to undergo an additional 45 days of simple imprisonment.

Similarly, in a theft case registered in 2006, the court found the accused guilty under Sections 457 and 380 of the IPC. Under Section 457, he was sentenced to three years of simple imprisonment and fined Rs 5,000, with an additional 45 days of simple imprisonment in case of non-payment of the fine.

Under Section 380, the court imposed another sentence of three years of simple imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 5,000.

The judgment was delivered by T Damayanthi Somayya, senior civil judge and JMFC Court, after hearing the cases.
