India beat Bangladesh to clinch sixth SAFF Women's title

Madgaon, Jun 7: India defeated defending champions Bangladesh women's national football team 3-1 in the final of the SAFF Women's Championship 2026 in Madgaon, Goa, on Saturday to lift the trophy for a record sixth time.

With the victory, the Blue Tigresses ended a seven-year wait to reclaim the prestigious South Asian title.

Both teams started the summit clash with high intensity, producing an entertaining first half. India took the lead through Pyari Xaxa, who found the net to put the hosts ahead. Bangladesh responded strongly and drew level through Ritu Porna Chakma, leaving the score tied at 1-1 at the break.

India dominated proceedings after the restart and regained the advantage when Sanfida scored a brilliant goal. The hosts then extended their lead through Linda Kom, whose strike sealed a memorable victory.

Bangladesh were unable to mount a comeback as India comfortably held on to secure a 3-1 win and reclaim the championship crown.

The Indian team impressed throughout the tournament and capped off their campaign with a commanding performance in the final to emerge champions once again.
