Ranchi set to make Durand Cup debut with Jamshedpur FC clash

Ranchi, Jul 26: Ranchi is set to create history on Sunday by hosting its first-ever match of the prestigious Durand Cup, as the 135th edition of Asia's oldest football tournament makes its debut in Jharkhand.

The opening fixture in Ranchi will be played at the Birsa Munda Football Stadium, where Indian Super League side Jamshedpur FC will take on Sri Lanka's Defender FC.

The inclusion of Ranchi as one of the host cities for the 135th edition of the Durand Cup marks a significant milestone in the state's sporting history. Authorities said all preparations for the inaugural match have been completed.

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren is expected to attend the match as the chief guest.

With football fans showing enthusiastic response to the tournament, the district administration has made entry free through a zero-ticket system to encourage spectators.

Elaborate security arrangements have been put in place around the stadium, including CCTV surveillance and drone monitoring, to ensure the smooth conduct of the match.
