Mangaluru, Jun 7: Karnataka Minister for Health and Family Welfare UT Khader paid a courtesy visit to Bishop of Mangalore, Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, at the Bishop’s House in Rosario on Sunday, seeking blessings and guidance as he assumes charge of his new responsibilities in the state cabinet.
The visit came soon after Khader’s induction into the Karnataka Cabinet. His return to the Health and Family Welfare portfolio has been welcomed by many across the coastal region, where he enjoys wide support.
The Minister was warmly received by Bishop Peter Paul Saldanha. As a mark of respect, the bishop felicitated Khader with a shawl and bouquet. In return, the Minister honoured the bishop and expressed gratitude for the prayers, encouragement and support extended by the Church and the faithful throughout his public life.
During the meeting, the bishop offered special prayers for Khader, invoking God’s blessings for wisdom, strength and success in discharging his responsibilities as Health and Family Welfare Minister. He also prayed for the Minister’s efforts to strengthen healthcare services and ensure accessible and compassionate care for the people of Karnataka.
Several members of the clergy, religious communities and lay leaders were present on the occasion. Among them were Fr Rupesh Madtha, PRO of the diocese of Mangalore; Fr Valerian D’Souza, parish priest of Rosario Cathedral; Fr Ivan D’Souza; Fr Valerian Fernandes; Fr Pradeep Rodrigues; and Sr Maria Naveena AC, provincial superior of the Mangalore Province. Sisters from St Ann’s Convent and members of the Rosario Cathedral Parish Pastoral Council also attended the gathering.
Community leaders including Denis D’Silva, National President of the Global Christian Business Fellowship (GBF) India, Alwyn D’Souza (Panir), Stany Bantwal and other parish representatives were also present.
During the visit, office-bearers of Catholic Sabha Bendur felicitated Khader on his appointment as Karnataka's Health and Family Welfare Minister. The felicitation was led by Catholic Sabha Bendur President John D'Souza. Former president Kishore Fernandes, treasurer Lancy Lasrado, and office-bearers George Ashok Pereira, Joachim Pereira, Hilary Fernandes and Rouque D'Souza were also present on the occasion.
The Sabha members conveyed their best wishes to the Minister and expressed confidence in his leadership as he assumes charge of the important portfolio. Khader thanked them for their support and good wishes.
The meeting reflected the cordial relationship between the Minister and the Church leadership, underscoring a shared commitment to public service, social welfare and the well-being of the people of the state.
