Mangaluru: MCC launches drive to clear unauthorized flex banners following CM's directive

Mangaluru, Jun 12: Following clear instructions from chief minister D K Shivakumar to clamp down on unauthorized flexes and banners, the district administration has ordered their immediate removal. Acting swiftly on the directive, the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) officials launched a major clearance drive.

The city had recently witnessed a massive surge in illegal hoardings, flexes, and banners erected at various prominent spots, including many congratulating the newly appointed chief minister. With the monsoon intensifying in the coastal region, these loose structures pose a severe safety hazard to motorists and pedestrians as they risk being blown away or collapsed by strong winds and heavy rains.

Strict action warned

Civic officials have already cleared numerous unauthorized banners from areas such as Padil, Pumpwell, Kannur, and Jeppinamogaru, where they were found to be dangerously protruding onto roads and public spaces.

The deputy commissioner has issued a stern warning stating that strict action, including hefty fines and legal penalties, will be initiated against individuals or organizations installing illegal advertisements.

Furthermore, the district administration cautioned that local civic officials will be held directly responsible under the Disaster Management Act 2005 if any negligence, delay, or mishap occurs due to such structures.
