Two police sub-inspectors suspended in custodial assault case at Curtorim Police Station

Margao, Jun 13: Goa Police on Friday suspended two police sub-inspectors in connection with the alleged assault of several individuals inside the Maina-Curtorim Police Station earlier this week.

The suspended officers have been identified as Sanket Naik and Gaurav Naik. The action comes as authorities continue to investigate allegations that detainees were physically assaulted while in police custody.

Earlier, three police constables — Chetan Koli, Samir Sudhir and Pundalik Parit — were also placed under suspension pending the outcome of an internal inquiry into the incident.

According to preliminary information, the episode is linked to a clash between two groups in the Ramnagari area of Curtorim. Following the altercation, police detained four to five individuals and brought them to the Maina-Curtorim Police Station for questioning and further action.

However, allegations subsequently surfaced that the detainees were assaulted by police personnel inside the station premises while in custody.

Following the complaints, senior police officials initiated an inquiry into the matter. As part of the ongoing investigation, disciplinary action has now been taken against both the sub-inspectors and the three constables involved.

Police authorities have not disclosed further details regarding the inquiry, but officials indicated that the suspensions will remain in effect until the investigation is completed and responsibility for the alleged misconduct is determined.

The case has drawn attention to concerns over custodial conduct and police accountability, with the inquiry expected to establish the circumstances under which the alleged assault took place and whether departmental or legal action will follow against those found responsible.
