Udupi, Jun 23: MLA of Udupi-Chikkamagaluru constituency, Yashpal Suvarna has received widespread appreciation for his timely intervention that enabled a NEET aspirant to appear for the examination after she was denied entry for arriving two minutes late at the examination centre.

The incident occurred during the NEET examination held across the country on Sunday. Akshatha, a student of a private college in Karkala, reached the examination centre at MGM College in Udupi at 1.32 pm, two minutes after the prescribed entry deadline of 1.30 pm. As a result, the examination authorities refused to allow her to enter the centre.

Akshatha and her parents were travelling from a rural area of Karkala when their vehicle broke down en route. They arranged an alternative vehicle and rushed to the centre but arrived two minutes late.

Distressed by the situation, the student's parents and college authorities contacted MLA Yashpal Suvarna for assistance. Responding immediately, the MLA reportedly contacted Udupi deputy commissioner Swaroop T K and superintendent of police Hariram Shankar, requesting that the student be given an opportunity to write the examination considering the exceptional circumstances.

Following the intervention, and with special permission facilitated through the district administration, Akshatha was granted entry to the examination centre at around 2.45 pm and was allowed to take the NEET examination.

The student's parents and college management expressed their gratitude to the MLA for his efforts in safeguarding the student's academic future.

Priyanka Palan, a lecturer at a private institute in Kunjibettu, also appreciated the MLA's prompt response and concern for the educational future of a student from a rural background.

Speaking on the matter, MLA Yashpal Suvarna said, "NEET is one of the most important milestones in a student's life. As soon as I received information that a rural student had been delayed by just two minutes due to unavoidable circumstances, I coordinated with the deputy commissioner and superintendent of police to help her secure permission to write the examination. I am grateful to the district administration, the deputy commissioner, and the superintendent of police for their immediate support in ensuring that the student's academic future was not affected."
