Serena Williams set for Wimbledon doubles despite knee injury

Daijiworld Media Network - London

London, Jul 1: Serena Williams is determined to be ready for her Wimbledon doubles campaign alongside her elder sister Venus despite suffering a knee injury during her opening singles match, according to her agent.

The 44-year-old tennis legend made her much-awaited return to competitive tennis after a four-year break, but her comeback ended in disappointment after she lost to Australian player Maya Joint.

Williams skipped the mandatory post-match press conference due to the injury and was not penalised. Attention has now shifted to her doubles appearance after the Williams sisters received a wild card entry for the tournament.

Serena and Venus will face Solana Sierra and Camila Osorio in the first round of the doubles event.

Serena’s agent Jill Smoller confirmed that the former world number one had suffered a knee issue during the match and was granted an exemption from media duties.

Despite the setback, Serena walked out of the venue without assistance and is focused on recovering in time for the doubles matches later this week.
