Moodbidri: Young voices shine at 'Rang Tarang' singing contest opener

Moodbidri, July 6: The first round of the second edition of the Rang Tarang Singing Competition, organised by the cultural organisation Rang Tarang Moodbidri, was held on Sunday, July 5, at the Holy Angels School Auditorium, Shirthady.

The programme was inaugurated by the parish priest of Shirthady, Fr Sylvester Vincent Lobo, who conveyed his best wishes to all the participants.

The gathering was welcomed by the competition coordinator Valentina Castelino. Rang Tarang leaders Sunil Miranda and Alwin Menezes outlined the objectives and guidelines of the competition. The vote of thanks was proposed by the assistant coordinator Clara Miranda.

The competition was judged by an eminent panel comprising renowned singer Anil D'Sa Pangla, musician Oliver Rebello Pangla, Denzil Pereira of Blue Angels, renowned singer Preethuma Montero, Simon Angela Montero and Seema Joslyn D'Souza.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation, with 40 contestants in the 5–10 years category, 45 in the 10–15 years category, 25 in the women (28 years and above) category and seven in the men (28 years and above) category.

The first round for the 15–28 years (Boys and Girls) category and the duet singing category will be held on Sunday, July 19, from 10 am at Holy Angels School, Shirthady.

The second round of the competition is scheduled for August 2026, followed by the final round in October 2026.
