London, Jul 6: Jasmine Paolini overcame a determined challenge from Alexandra Eala to secure a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 victory in the fourth round of the Wimbledon 2026 women's singles on Monday, advancing to the quarterfinals at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.
The 13th-seeded Italian, who had been doubtful for the tournament because of a foot injury, ended Eala's remarkable campaign after a fiercely contested encounter on Centre Court.

Paolini made an impressive start, racing to a 4-1 lead in the opening set and appearing to take control of the contest. However, the 21-year-old Eala gradually settled into the match, displaying the fearless shot-making and aggressive style that had powered her to a breakthrough run in the tournament.
Fresh from her stunning victory over defending champion Iga Swiatek in the previous round, Eala responded strongly to claim the second set 6-4, drawing loud applause from the Centre Court crowd. Thousands of supporters also gathered at the PhilSports Arena in Manila to cheer on the first Filipino player to reach the fourth round of a Grand Slam.
With Paolini committing a series of unforced errors, Eala briefly seized the momentum and looked capable of producing another major upset. However, the experienced Italian regained her composure in the deciding set, earning the crucial service break to move 5-3 ahead before sealing the victory when Eala sent a return wide.
The win sends last year's Wimbledon runner-up into another quarterfinal at the All England Club, while Eala bows out after a landmark campaign that made her the first player from the Philippines to reach the second week of a Grand Slam tournament, further enhancing her reputation as one of tennis' brightest emerging stars.
In the quarterfinals, Paolini will face Marta Kostyuk, who advanced with a straight-sets victory over Ashlyn Krueger.
The 12th-seeded Kostyuk defeated the American 6-4, 6-4 in one hour and 23 minutes, securing a comfortable win after being pushed to three sets in each of her previous two matches.
