Chennai, Jul 16: Actor Vijay’s much-awaited film ‘Jana Nayagan’ is set to hit theatres on July 23, prompting several Tamil filmmakers to reschedule their releases to avoid a box-office clash.
The first major change came from actor-composer GV Prakash Kumar, whose supernatural horror film ‘Immortal’ was scheduled for release on the same day. Announcing the postponement on X, GV Prakash said the decision was taken as a mark of respect for Vijay’s final film as an actor.

“When Thalapathy arrives, one simply has to step aside. Especially for this one, the last time. Best of luck, Team Jana Nayagan,” he wrote.
He announced that ‘Immortal’ will now release in theatres on September 4 with audience support.
Directed by Mariyappan Chinna and produced by AK Film Factory, ‘Immortal’ stars GV Prakash Kumar alongside Kayadu Lohar. The film revolves around a young man whose fascination with a mysterious new neighbour leads to a series of supernatural incidents.
Meanwhile, the makers of ‘Jana Nayagan’ officially confirmed the release date through KVN Productions.
“Tested by fire. Forged by time. Built for history. The tougher the battle, the louder the victory,” the production house posted while announcing the film’s July 23 release.
The makers also revealed that the first show in Tamil Nadu will begin at 9 am, while theatres in Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana will screen early shows from 5 am.
‘Jana Nayagan’ had earlier faced delays due to certification issues. The film was submitted to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) in December 2025, following which reports suggested that it would receive a U/A 16+ certificate.
However, objections raised during the certification process reportedly led to the film being referred to a revision committee. The certification process continued for several months before the release date was finalised.
Directed by H. Vinoth, ‘Jana Nayagan’ marks Vijay’s final appearance as an actor before his full-time entry into politics. The film was initially planned as a farewell project for his fans ahead of the elections.
Produced by KVN Productions on a reported budget of around Rs 500 crore, the film features a star-studded cast including Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol and Mamitha Baiju. The music has been composed by Anirudh Ravichander.
