Udupi, July 18: A pack of stray dogs allegedly broke into a goat shed at Katapady in the early hours of Saturday and mauled five goats, including two kids, to death, intensifying concerns over the growing stray dog menace and prompting residents to demand immediate intervention by the authorities.
The incident occurred at Achchad in Katapady, at the residence of retired teacher Vitthal Sherigar, where his son Prashanth rears goats.
According to reports, the stray dogs entered the shed before dawn and attacked the animals, killing five goats, including two young kids. The incident is estimated to have caused losses worth several thousand rupees to the family.

Residents said stray dogs have continued to create a nuisance in the vicinity of the Achchad Male Jumadi Daivasthana, with their increasing presence posing a threat to both livestock and the public. The recurring menace has also heightened anxiety among parents, who fear for the safety of their children while sending them to school.
Locals have urged the authorities to act before a more serious tragedy occurs and to take immediate and effective measures to curb the stray dog menace in the area.
