Chennai, Jul 19: The sets of the upcoming Tamil film 'Om' turned into a celebration on Sunday as Mammootty, Dhanush, director Rajkumar Periasamy, and editor R. Kalaivanan marked their recent success at the 72nd National Film Awards by cutting a cake together.
Sharing a photograph of the celebration on X, Mammootty expressed gratitude for the recognition and the support received from fans. The image captured the four National Award winners celebrating together during the ongoing shoot of the film.
Mammootty was honoured with the Best Actor award for his acclaimed performance in the Malayalam horror thriller 'Bramayugam', sharing the honour with Bollywood actor Kartik Aaryan.
Dhanush enjoyed a memorable outing at the awards, securing two National Awards. His directorial venture 'Raayan' was named Best Tamil Feature Film, while his performance in 'Captain Miller' earned him a Special Mention.
Director Rajkumar Periasamy won the Best Director award for 'Amaran', the biographical drama based on the life of Major Mukund Varadarajan. The film also brought editor R. Kalaivanan the Best Editing honour, making all four key members of the 'Om' team National Award recipients.
Rajkumar Periasamy had earlier revealed that Mammootty portrays a character named Karthikeyan in 'Om' and said that around 60 to 65 per cent of the film had already been completed. He described the project as a special journey for everyone involved and expressed confidence that it was shaping up well.
Scheduled for release on October 16, 'Om' features Dhanush in the lead role alongside Sai Pallavi and Sreeleela.
The film's title carries the tagline "Chapter 1", hinting at the possibility of a larger franchise. However, Rajkumar Periasamy has clarified that the first instalment will tell a complete story while leaving room for future chapters.
Earlier promotional material suggested that the film revolves around the illegal felling of red sanders. Dhanush plays a woodcutter who confronts law enforcement officers after they detain labourers involved in cutting the valuable timber, setting the stage for an action-packed narrative.
The film features music by Sai Abhyankkar, cinematography by Ezhil Arasu, editing by R. Kalaivanan, and costume design by Kavya Sriram.
