London, Jul 20: England defeated India by 27 runs in the third and final One-Day International at Lord's on Sunday to clinch the three-match series 2-1.

Chasing a formidable target of 388, India finished on 360 for seven in their allotted 50 overs despite a brilliant 138 from captain Rohit Sharma. Shubman Gill contributed 77, while Virat Kohli added 74, but their efforts were not enough to prevent England from sealing the series.

Earlier, after opting to bat, England posted a commanding 387 for three in 50 overs.

Ben Duckett starred with a career-best 142, while Jacob Bethell scored 91 as the hosts laid the foundation for their highest-ever ODI total at Lord's.

Jacob Bethell was named Player of the Match for his all-round contribution, while Joe Root was adjudged Player of the Series for his consistent performances throughout the series.

India had won the opening ODI at the Rose Bowl in Southampton before England bounced back with victories in Cardiff and the series decider at Lord's to claim the series 2-1.
