Muscat, Jul 21: The Indian sub-junior men's and women's teams made a winning start to their campaigns at the FIH Youth Hockey5s Asian Championship 2026 with convincing victories on the opening day on Monday.

The Indian women's team opened the country's campaign with an emphatic 8-3 win over Kazakhstan in their Elite Pool match. Displaying attacking flair throughout the contest, the young Indian side dominated proceedings to secure a comfortable victory.

The Indian men's team followed with an equally impressive performance, defeating Bangladesh 7-3 in their opening Elite Pool fixture. The team maintained control of the match with a strong all-round display to begin its campaign on a positive note.

Both the Indian men's and women's teams are competing in the Elite Pools of their respective competitions.

The FIH Youth Hockey5s Asian Championship also serves as the Asian qualifying tournament for the inaugural FIH Youth Hockey5s World Cup, with teams vying for a place in the historic first edition of the global event.

With comprehensive opening-day victories, both Indian teams have strengthened their prospects of advancing further in the tournament and securing qualification for the World Cup.
