Ajman, Jul 21: Most entrepreneurs spot opportunities. Dr Thumbay Moideen has spent nearly three decades creating them.
When he arrived in the UAE in 1997, the country needed doctors. Others would have built a hospital. He built a university. That decision gave birth to Gulf Medical College, the UAE's first private medical college, today recognised as the No. 1 private medical university in the Gulf, with students from over 111 nationalities.

One idea led to the next. Graduates needed clinical training, so teaching hospitals followed. Patients needed diagnostics, so laboratories emerged. Continuity of care demanded clinics and pharmacies. Research became a priority, with Gulf Medical University now investing AED 10 million annually in grants. Today, Thumbay Group spans healthcare, medical education, research, diagnostics, wellness, hospitality, media, technology and real estate, having treated over 19 million patients from 175 nationalities.
Thumbay Medicity Ajman, spread over 25 acres, stands as the clearest expression of his vision. The upcoming Thumbay Medicity Dubai will create 1,000 jobs, alongside the region's first private integrated psychiatric and rehabilitation hospital in Sharjah, Thumbay Vetrinary Hospital and State of the Art Thumbay International Research Center in Ajman.
His philosophy is simple: see the future early, build with conviction, create something that lasts.
