Glasgow, Jul 23: India's medal tally at the 2026 Commonwealth Games has got off to an early start, even before the official opening ceremony, with Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain securing a guaranteed podium finish in women's boxing.
The Assam boxer has advanced directly to the women's 75kg semifinals after receiving a bye in the quarterfinal stage, ensuring herself at least a bronze medal.
Under the Commonwealth Games boxing format, both losing semifinalists are awarded bronze medals, making Lovlina India's first confirmed medallist of the Games without having stepped into the ring.

The Olympic bronze medallist will now face her semifinal opponent in a bid to upgrade the colour of her medal and strengthen India's boxing campaign in Glasgow.
Lovlina's assured medal gives India an early boost ahead of the opening ceremony, with hopes high for a strong performance from the country's boxing contingent throughout the Games.
