Udupi, Jul 29: An FIR has been lodged against Udupi mla Yashpal Suvarna for allegedly delivering a provocative and hateful speech during a protest organised by the Udupi district BJP in the city on Tuesday, July 28.
The FIR was registered at the Udupi town police station based on a complaint filed by Ashok Kumar Kodavoor, Udupi district Congress president.

According to the complaint, the Udupi mla referred to CJP protestors and Congress leaders as terrorists and also called Congress leader Rahul Gandhi a drug addict. His statements were categorised as inflammatory and constituted hate speech.
FIR number 103/2026 has been registered at the Udupi town police station under sections 57, 192, 196(2), 352, 353(2), and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police stated that further legal proceedings will be initiated.
