Udupi, Jul 30: A controversy has erupted over a speech made by Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna during a protest against the Congress and the 'Cockroach Party' held in Udupi on July 28.

During the protest, the legislator allegedly stated that "just as the Babri Masjid was demolished, Rahul Gandhi's dynasty will also be destroyed," a remark that sparked strong criticism. Following a complaint lodged by Congress leaders, the police registered an FIR against the MLA.

On the evening of Wednesday, July 29, the investigating officer from the Udupi police station visited Suvarna's residence and served him a notice, which he accepted.

The MLA had also allegedly claimed that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi remains under the influence of narcotic substances and stated that his family lineage would be destroyed. The police are treating these remarks as alleged hate speech and have initiated an investigation into the matter.
