Mangaluru, Jul 31: The City Crime Branch (CCB) police have successfully apprehended the prime accused in a 2015 attempt to murder case, who had been absconding for 11 years.

The arrested individual has been identified as Chunki Akash Bhavan alias Santhosh S (34), a resident of Karnelli village, Mallenahalli post, Shikaripura taluk in Shivamogga district.

According to the police, the incident took place in 2015 during a Mehendi ceremony in Akash Bhavan. An altercation had broken out between Ashok Kumar Kottari and another accused named Jaggu. Following this, the prime accused, Chunki Akash Bhavan, along with his accomplices Ranjith, Dhanu, Dhooma, Sweety alias Naresh, and Jaggu, brutally attacked Ashok Kumar Kottari with swords. The victim sustained grievous injuries in the murder attempt.

A case regarding the incident was registered at the Kavoor police station (Crime No 135/2015). However, Chunki Akash Bhavan managed to evade arrest from the day the case was filed and had been on the run for nearly 11 years. The court had subsequently issued a Long Pending Case (LPC) warrant (25/2025) against him.

The CCB police, who had been tracking him for a long time without any prior leads, recently gathered reliable information that he was residing in Shivamogga. Acting on this intelligence, the police detained him at Chikkerur in Haveri district on July 29.

He was subsequently handed over to the Kavoor police station for further legal action. The operation was carried out by the officers and personnel of the Mangaluru CCB unit.
