Sanguem, Aug 1: Linemen staged a protest outside the Electricity Department office in Sanguem opposing the suspension of three department employees in connection with a recent electrocution incident at Xelpem.

The protesters termed the suspension orders unjust and demanded that the employees be reinstated immediately.

The demonstration was led by Goa Forward Party Youth President Meshu D'Costa, who staged a sit-in outside the department office and called for the withdrawal of the suspension orders.

During a meeting with Executive Engineer Uday Kudalkar, the protesters claimed that the three suspended employees were not present at the site when the electrocution incident occurred. They alleged that the employees had been assigned duties at another location at the time and questioned the basis for suspending them.

The protesters also sought clarification on a report submitted by Junior Engineer Akshay, asking whether it had specifically identified the suspended employees as being responsible for the incident. They argued that disciplinary action should not have been initiated without written evidence establishing their involvement.

D'Costa alleged that innocent employees were being held accountable for an incident in which they had no direct role. He demanded an impartial inquiry and the immediate revocation of the suspension orders.

Department officials assured the protesters that statements of all concerned employees were being recorded and that further action would be taken after a thorough review of the facts. The matter remains under investigation.
