Mangaluru/ Udupi, Aug 1: Fishing activities will resume from August 1 following the end of the two-month monsoon fishing ban imposed to facilitate the breeding season of marine fish.
Preparations have been underway for the past week, with fishing boats undergoing repairs, stocking ice, and getting ready to venture into deep sea.
Around 70 to 100 fishing boats are expected to venture into the sea on the opening day, while nearly 400 deep-sea trawlers are ready to resume operations. However, adverse weather conditions could hamper fishing activities. Purse seine boats are scheduled to begin fishing on August 7, following the customary sea worship ceremony, though their operations will ultimately depend on prevailing weather conditions.

Preparations have also been completed at Malpe fishing harbour. As a precautionary measure, a cleanliness drive was carried out at the harbour on Friday. Boats will venture into the sea in a phased manner to resume fishing operations.
