Kundapur, Aug 4: A major fire, suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit, completely gutted Guru Brahma General Store near Sri Brahmasthana on National Highway 66 at Thekkatte during the early hours of Tuesday.
The incident occurred at around 1.30 am, after the shop owner, Santosh, had closed the store for the day and returned home. The fire reportedly broke out suddenly and spread rapidly, engulfing the entire shop within minutes.

Large quantities of grocery items, refrigerators and furniture worth several lakhs of rupees were destroyed in the blaze.
According to preliminary information, the fire is suspected to have originated from an electrical short circuit in one of the more than three refrigerators kept inside the shop.
The total loss has been estimated at over Rs 40 lac.
On receiving information about the incident, personnel from the Kundapur Fire and Emergency Services rushed to the spot and successfully brought the fire under control after a firefighting operation.
