Kundapur, Aug 5: A 37-year-old scooter rider died after a speeding car rammed into his two-wheeler from behind near the entrance arch of the Anegudde Sri Vinayaka Temple on National Highway 66 at Thekkatte on Monday night, August 3.

The deceased has been identified as Ganesh Devadiga (37), a resident of M G Colony in Vaddarse, Brahmavar taluk.

According to police, the car was travelling from Kundapur towards Udupi at high speed when it collided with the scooter that was moving in the same direction. The impact left Ganesh with severe head and body injuries.

Locals rushed him to a hospital in Koteshwar, where he was given first aid before being shifted to the emergency intensive care unit at a hospital in Manipal. However, he succumbed to his injuries despite treatment.

The impact of the collision was so severe that the car reportedly dragged the scooter for nearly 100 metres before crashing into the crash barrier on the road divider. The front portion of the car was extensively damaged, while the scooter was completely mangled.

Kundapur Traffic police sub-inspector Anoop Nayak visited the accident spot, conducted an inspection and registered a case.

Ganesh was employed as a cook at a hotel in Kundapur and was the sole breadwinner of his economically disadvantaged family. He is survived by his wife and parents.
