New Delhi, Aug 10: If one has the determination, perseverance, and self-confidence to achieve, no hurdle is too difficult. Satyam Kumar is a prime example of this, proving that even the most formidable challenges can be conquered.
Born into a humble farming family, Satyam is today working as a machine learning systems research engineer at a prominent international company. The path he walked, overcoming numerous obstacles to reach this position, is truly remarkable.
Satyam Kumar was born on July 20, 1999, to an agrarian family in Bakhorapur village of Bihar's Bhojpur district. Coming from a middle-class background, he had to balance his academic pursuits alongside agricultural chores from a young age. Earning the title of the 'youngest IITian', he made headlines by initially clearing the tough IIT-JEE examination at the tender age of 12.
Recognising his deep interest in academics since childhood, his parents stood as his strongest pillars of support and sent him to Kota, Rajasthan, for intensive IIT-JEE coaching. Their efforts bore fruit when, at the age of 13, he wrote the exam again and secured an impressive all-India rank of 670.
In 2013, Satyam gained admission to the prestigious IIT Kanpur in the electrical engineering department, where he completed his BTech and MTech degrees. Cultivating a profound interest in robotics and machine learning during this time, he later moved to the United States in 2019 to pursue a PhD in electrical and computer engineering at the University of Texas.
During 'Techkriti 2014' at IIT Kanpur, Satyam emerged as the runner-up in a competition for developing amphibian robotics technology, designed to function on both land and water. His academic brilliance earned him the 'Excellence Charpak Summer Training Scholarship' in France in 2016 and a teaching assistant fellowship from the Government of India in 2017.
After successfully submitting his PhD thesis in 2024, Satyam secured an internship in machine learning with the 'Siri Speech' team at Apple's office in Switzerland. Following this, he officially began his professional career as a machine learning systems research engineer at Texas Instruments.
He is currently working in the division responsible for developing cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning technologies. Satyam's extraordinary success story continues to serve as a beacon of inspiration for millions of children from middle-class farming backgrounds.
