Man held for temple donation box theft in Bicholim

Bicholim, Aug 10: Bicholim police arrested Savalo Korgaonkar of Deulwada, Dhargalim, for allegedly stealing Rs 5,000 from the donation box of Shree Kalbhairav Temple at Saptakoteshwar Devasthan, Narve.

Police said Korgaonkar is also allegedly involved in 10 other similar theft cases reported in different parts of the state.

According to a complaint filed by temple secretary Mandar Sardessai, the accused allegedly entered the temple through the open hall on August 1, broke open the lock of the donation box and fled with cash and coins.

Police identified the accused with the help of CCTV footage and traced him to Cortalim. He was brought to Bicholim police station on Saturday night.

Korgaonkar was produced before a court on Sunday and remanded to 12 days of judicial custody.
