Mangaluru, Aug 16: MCC Bank witnessed an atmosphere of patriotic fervour, pride and national spirit as the Bank celebrated the 80th Independence Day of India with grandeur and solemnity on Saturday, August 15. The celebration brought together the Bank’s leadership, directors, employees, distinguished guests and well-wishers in a spirited commemoration of the nation’s historic journey of freedom.
The ceremony was presided over by chairman of MCC Bank Sahakara Ratna Anil Lobo. The occasion was graced by B K Imthiyaz, president, DYFI, Dakshina Kannada District, and Fr Ivan Michael Rodrigues, parish priest, Our Lady of Miracles Church, Milagres, Mangaluru, who were the chief guests. Vice chairman, Jerald Jude D’Silva and general manager Sunil Menezes were on the dais.
The programme commenced with the ceremonial hoisting of the national flag by chief guest B K Imthiyaz. As the tricolour unfurled majestically against the morning sky, the gathering stood in solemn respect and pride, joining together in the singing of the national anthem. The moment evoked a deep sense of patriotism, unity and gratitude towards the countless freedom fighters whose sacrifices paved the way for an independent India.
Addressing the gathering, B K Imthiyaz extended his greetings and congratulations to everyone on the 80th Independence Day of the nation. Reflecting on the meaning of freedom in contemporary India, he observed that the true essence of independence can be realised only when every citizen has access to genuine opportunities in education, employment and economic empowerment.
He emphasised that, in the present circumstances, India needs to strive towards greater economic liberation and ensure that the benefits of development reach every section of society. Referring to India’s role in the global community, he stressed that the country, particularly in the context of the prevailing international situation, should continue to emerge as an ambassador of peace, harmony and cooperation.
Imthiyaz also highlighted the significant role of the youth in shaping the future of the nation. Pointing out that young people constitute nearly 60 per cent of India’s population, he said that the youth must be empowered to experience and realise the true spirit of freedom through access to opportunities, education, employment and avenues for meaningful participation in nation-building.
Appreciating the initiatives undertaken by MCC Bank, he commended the institution for its efforts towards empowering the community and supporting aspirations in the fields of education and employment, while also contributing towards meeting the basic needs of society. He noted that such initiatives give practical meaning to the ideals of freedom by enabling individuals and families to build a more secure and dignified future.
In his address, Fr Ivan Michael Rodrigues expressed his gratitude to MCC Bank for giving him the opportunity to be part of the Independence Day celebrations. He observed that the freedom secured through the sacrifices and struggles of the nation’s freedom fighters is a precious gift inherited by the present generation, but one that also carries with it a profound responsibility.
He called upon every citizen to recognise this responsibility and contribute positively towards the progress and welfare of the nation. Appreciating MCC Bank’s efforts, Fr Ivan Michael Rodrigues noted that the bank was taking meaningful steps towards supporting the aspirations of young people and helping them move closer to their dreams and ambitions.
The celebration was also attended by directors Andrew D’Souza, Roshan D’Souza, Irene Rebello, David D’Souza, Herold Monteiro, Dr Gerald Pinto, Melwin Vas, Elroy Kiran Crasto, Sushanth Saldanha, J P Rodrigues, Vincent Lasrado and Felix D’Cruz, along with officers and staff members of MCC Bank.
Manoj Lopez and his team enthralled the gathering with mesmerising singing of patriotic songs. Nelson compered the programme and proposed vote of thanks.
