New Delhi, Aug 17: The Delhi Auto Rickshaw Sangh is set to hold a protest at Jantar Mantar on Monday to demand the formation of a welfare board and raise several issues concerning auto-rickshaw and taxi drivers.

The protest, being organised under the umbrella of the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh, will target both the Central and Delhi governments.

Delhi Auto Rickshaw Sangh General Secretary Rajendra Soni on Sunday appealed to auto and taxi drivers to participate in the agitation and press for their demands.

"I appeal to all auto-taxi drivers to reach Jantar Mantar tomorrow and present their demands to the government. Our demand is that the Delhi government should immediately constitute the 'Auto-Taxi Drivers' Welfare Board' and withdraw the increased vehicle fitness fees immediately," Soni said.

The union has also opposed the increase in vehicle fitness testing fees for older vehicles.

The Transport Ministry had raised the fitness test fee for motor vehicles more than 20 years old in November 2025 as part of efforts to discourage people from continuing to use older vehicles.

The Sangh has also demanded the introduction of working-time limits for drivers and greater accountability of officials in the Delhi Transport Department.

Another key demand is an immediate ban on bike taxis operating with private registration plates.

The protesters are expected to press the government to address their demands and introduce measures aimed at improving the working conditions and welfare of auto-rickshaw and taxi drivers in the national capital.
