Mumbai, Aug 25: Mumbai has made its debut among the world's leading workcation destinations, featuring in the fourth edition of International Workplace Group's (IWG) Work from Anywhere Index.

Mumbai is the only Indian city on the 2026 index, scoring 77 and ranking ahead of London and Miami. Bangkok topped the list with 106.5 points, followed by Tokyo with 96.5 and Barcelona with 95.5. Porto and Vancouver completed the top five.

Budapest, Naples, Medellin, Lisbon and Seoul were among the other cities featured in the global ranking.

The annual index evaluates destinations based on factors including climate, broadband speed, accommodation, transport, food, culture and the availability of flexible workspaces.

According to IWG, the growing adoption of work-from-anywhere policies, supported by hybrid working models and access to flexible workspaces worldwide, is fuelling demand for destinations where people can combine work and travel.

"Mumbai's inclusion in the 2026 Index reflects the maturing of India's remote-work infrastructure and the city's growing appeal as a destination for professionals," IWG said in a report released on Monday.

Mumbai recorded its strongest scores for transport costs, availability of coworking and flexible workspaces, climate and accommodation. However, it lost points for broadband speed and quality, availability of local events and its happiness index.

The report noted that successful workcation destinations need to offer more than conventional holiday attractions, combining leisure, culture and reliable flexible workspaces.
