Kadaba, Aug 26: The 5th additional district and sessions court in Puttur has sentenced a 60-year-old man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment in connection with an acid attack case reported in Kadaba.
The convicted accused has been identified as Jayananda K (60), a resident of Kodimbala in Kadaba.
The case (Crime No 06/2020) was initially registered under sections 354A, 509, 504, 506, 448, 307, and 326A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The investigating officer, then Puttur women's police station inspector Kusumadhara, conducted a thorough probe, collected vital evidence, and submitted the charge sheet against the accused to the court.
Hearing the case, judge Sadananda Nagappa Naik pronounced the verdict. Under section 326A of the IPC, the accused was sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and slapped with a fine of Rs 3,00,000. Failure to pay the fine will attract an additional two years of simple imprisonment. Furthermore, under section 504 of the IPC, he was sentenced to one year of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5,000, failing which he will have to undergo an additional three months of simple imprisonment.
Public prosecutors Krishnaveni, Harishchandra Udyavar, Prakash Chandra Shetty, and Jayanthi K argued the case effectively on behalf of the state.
