Panaji, Aug 27: The Office of the Superintendent of Police has imposed prohibitory restrictions in the jurisdiction of Porvorim and Panaji police stations from August 31 until the conclusion of the 14th Session of the Eighth Legislative Assembly of Goa.

Under the order, no person will be permitted to take out a procession or stage a demonstration on any road, street or thoroughfare within the areas covered by the order.

Public meetings will be allowed only with a valid licence and in accordance with the terms and conditions prescribed by the competent authorities.

Individuals or groups planning to organise public gatherings, processions or demonstrations have been directed to apply for the necessary licence well in advance.

The order specifically prohibits processions, morchas, rallies, dharnas and similar activities within a 500-metre radius of the Goa Assembly Complex at Porvorim and in areas falling under the jurisdiction of Panaji Police Station.

The restrictions have been imposed in view of the forthcoming session of the Goa Legislative Assembly and are aimed at maintaining public order and ensuring the smooth conduct of Assembly proceedings.

The latest order is in addition to prohibitory measures already promulgated by the District Magistrate, North Goa, under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023.

Authorities have advised individuals and organisations intending to hold any public gathering or demonstration to comply with the prescribed procedures and obtain the required permission before conducting such activities.
