Bengaluru, Aug 30: The common man is in for a severe blow as the prices of essential daily commodities like sugar and jaggery have witnessed a sudden and steep hike in the open market, turning sweetness bitter for consumers.
In a span of just four to five days, the price of jaggery has surged by a massive Rs 12 per kg, while the price of sugar has jumped by Rs 4.
Five days ago, jaggery was priced at Rs 68 per kg, but it has now skyrocketed to Rs 80 per kg following the sudden hike. Similarly, the price of sugar, which stood at Rs 66 per kg just a few days ago, has now climbed to Rs 70 per kg.
This drastic and unexpected upward trend in the retail prices of these everyday essentials is expected to severely derail household budgets and impose a heavy financial burden on the public.
