Margao, Sep 2: The Cavelossim village panchayat has issued a stop work order to a resort following alleged violations of Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) norms during ongoing work at the property.
The action was initiated after complaints from local residents and videos circulated on social media alleging that the Mumbai-based resort was carrying out work in violation of CRZ guidelines.

Cavelossim Sarpanch Dixon Vaz told reporters that the resort had obtained permission from the Town and Country Planning (TCP) department to construct a compound wall and undertake bio-fencing in the CRZ area.
However, during the barricading work, the panchayat found that cement had been used, which is in violation of CRZ regulations, he said.
“The panchayat had earlier issued a show-cause notice to the resort,” Vaz said.
He further stated that steel sheets supported by steel pillars fixed with concrete had been installed in the No Development Zone (NDZ) area. The party has now been directed to immediately stop the work in the NDZ area and restore the site to its original condition.
The panchayat has warned that further action will be initiated under sub-section 4 of Section 66 of the Goa Panchayat Raj Act if the party fails to comply with the directions within 15 days of receiving the notice.
