Mumbai, Sep 2: A Wadala resident died after he allegedly jumped from a moving train onto the platform while trying to catch up with a friend from whom he had been separated at Nagpur railway station on Monday.
Nagpur Government Railway Police (GRP) said the deceased, Aslam Shaikh, a BJP activist, and his friend had boarded a train bound for Bhusawal in Jalgaon. The two reportedly became separated amid the rush at Nagpur station.
According to the GRP, Shaikh got off the train and allegedly attempted to catch up with his friend. He lost his balance and fell onto the tracks, sustaining fatal injuries.
Shaikh’s family had initially raised doubts over the circumstances of his death and suspected foul play. However, police showed them CCTV footage from the station, which they said showed how Shaikh fell.
His body is being brought to Mumbai, where his last rites will be performed.
