Mangaluru, Sept 2: District Congress Scheduled Caste Cell president Dinesh Mulur on Wednesday condemned the FIR registered against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi following his opposition to a controversial “purification” ritual held at Ramlila Maidan in Haldwani after Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s public meeting.
Speaking at a press conference at Congress Bhavan in Mallikatta, Mulur alleged that the purification ritual targeting Kharge was an act of caste discrimination and untouchability. He questioned why action was taken against Rahul Gandhi instead of those who organised the ritual.

Mulur said Rahul Gandhi had consistently raised issues concerning Dalits, farmers, students and other marginalised sections. Targeting him for defending Kharge amounts to targeting the entire Dalit community, he said.
He also criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s alleged silence over the incident and accused the Sangh Parivar of attempting to undermine the Constitution and revive caste-based discrimination.
Recalling the contributions of the Nehru-Gandhi family, Mulur highlighted the role of Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi in the country’s development and in implementing measures for weaker sections.
Mulur asserted that the Dalit community would stand firmly with Rahul Gandhi and oppose any attempt to undermine constitutional rights and dignity.
