Udupi, Sep 2: Udupi district police have put in place elaborate security and traffic arrangements in the city ahead of the popular Krishna Janmashtami and Vitla Pindi celebrations on September 4 and 5, with a focus on public safety, maintaining law and order and ensuring smooth traffic movement.
A total of one superintendent of police (SP), one additional superintendent of police, two deputy superintendents of police (DySPs), six police inspectors (PIs), 25 police sub-inspectors (PSIs), 35 assistant sub-inspectors (ASIs), 186 head constables, police constables and women police personnel, along with 50 home guards, have been deployed for security duty.

For additional security, the department has deployed one KSRP platoon, nine DAR platoons, three fire and emergency response teams, two ambulances and three drone teams.
To facilitate convenient parking for devotees arriving by vehicle, police have identified seven parking locations: MGM Grounds, Sri Krishna Math Rajangana parking area, Ammani Ramanna Shetty Hall parking area, Beedinagudde Grounds, Beedinagudde Stadium, Vidyodaya School parking area and Mandavi Royal Garden parking area.
Special arrangements have also been made to manage crowds and ensure the safety of women and children. Volunteers and personnel from the Akka-Pade initiative have been deployed to assist with crowd management and public safety.
As part of enhanced surveillance, CCTV cameras have been installed at 45 additional locations across key areas of the city. Police are monitoring the festival area through these cameras, while 12 public address systems have also been installed to facilitate announcements and communication with the public.
Fingerprint scanners are being used to identify and monitor individuals with a history of involvement in criminal activities. Drone cameras will also be deployed to maintain aerial surveillance over the entire festival area.
Udupi district police have appealed to the public and devotees to cooperate with the police, follow traffic regulations and comply with instructions issued by the authorities to ensure that the Vitla Pindi celebrations conclude peacefully and safely.
