Puttur: 20-year-old college student collapses to death while working out at gym

Puttur, Sep 6: In a tragic incident, a 20-year-old college student collapsed and died while working out at a gym here on Saturday afternoon.

The deceased has been identified as Shamik Rai, son of Ramesh Rai and Yashodha, residents of Kunjurupanja in Aryapu village.

Shamik, known to be a bright student, was pursuing his degree at a private college in Puttur and was simultaneously preparing for his Chartered Accountancy (CA) examinations. He had been a regular at the gym for quite some time. On Saturday, as usual, he went to the gym and was in the middle of his workout when he suddenly collapsed. Though he was immediately rushed to a hospital in Puttur, the doctors declared him brought dead.

A post-mortem examination was conducted at the Puttur government hospital. The Puttur town police have registered a case in connection with the incident.

Shamik is survived by his parents, a sister, and a large circle of relatives. Puttur MLA Ashok Rai and other dignitaries visited the hospital to offer their condolences and console the grieving family members.
