Mangaluru, Oct 24: A late-night fire, reportedly triggered by a short circuit, caused extensive damage to a house at Jokatte on Friday night, leaving one person with burn injuries.

The incident occurred at the house of the late Izzaka, whose younger son, Jabir, sustained burn injuries and was admitted to a private hospital in the city for treatment.

The fire reportedly broke out suddenly following a short circuit late on Friday night, causing extensive damage to the dining hall, kitchen, one bedroom and the front hall of the house. Several household articles were also gutted in the blaze.

At the time of the incident, seven people were sleeping inside the house. They included Jabir, his mother, his sister-in-law and his elder brother’s four children.

Jabir, who was sleeping in the front hall when the fire broke out, suffered burn injuries but escaped with his life. He was subsequently shifted to a private hospital in the city.

The other six family members, who were sleeping in different rooms, escaped unhurt, averting a potential tragedy. The incident left significant damage to the house and its household belongings, while all the other occupants survived without injury.
