Mangaluru, Sep 7: The Konkani Natak Sabha® (KNS), Mangaluru, successfully conducted its 58th Konkani elocution competition on Sunday, September 6, at the historic Don Bosco Hall, Mangaluru. The event brought together young and senior participants who showcased their speaking skills and love for the Konkani language.
The programme began with the KNS anthem, creating a warm and inspiring atmosphere. KNS president Fr Rocky D’Cunha OFM Cap welcomed the gathering and wished all the participants success. He encouraged the contestants to take part with confidence and give their best.
The traditional lighting of the lamp was held in the presence of Fr Rocky D’Cunha OFM Cap, KNS vice president Floyd Dmello Cascia, general secretary Pamela Santos, treasurer Ivan D’Silva, competition conveners Edward Coelho and Colin Miranda, and the panel of judges.
KNS vice president Floyd Dmello Cascia explained the competition rules to the participants and also briefed the gathering about the upcoming programmes of the Sabha.
The competition was judged by three experienced personalities who have a special connection with the KNS Elocution Competition — Melvyn Rodrigues, Jasmine Sarita Vas and Irene Mendonca. The judges carefully evaluated the performances and later shared their experiences, observations and useful suggestions with the participants. Their feedback helped the contestants understand their strengths and areas where they could improve.
A total of 69 participants took part in this year’s competition across six categories covering different age groups, from children to adults. Each participant brought a unique style and confidence to the stage, making the competition lively and engaging.
The successful conduct of the event was made possible through the combined efforts of the KNS team and volunteers. KNS manager Gerald Concessao and staff member Mohini coordinated the programme, while former KNS vice president Sunil Menezes, Ivan D’Silva and Jerome Moras handled the tabulation of scores.
Members of the KNS Derebail unit, KNS Urwa unit and the KNS managing committee also provided valuable support throughout the programme.
The attractive stage decoration was designed by Glanny D’Souza of Bajal Unit. The technical arrangements were handled by Christopher Mascarenhas of Bendur unit and Deon Joshwin Pinto of Cascia unit.
The programme was compered by Raymond D’Cunha. Edward Coelho introduced the judges, Beena Elizabeth D’Costa announced the results, and Pamela Santos proposed the vote of thanks.
The 58th Konkani elocution competition once again reflected KNS’s continued efforts to provide a platform for speakers of all ages and encourage the younger generation to develop their confidence and connection with the Konkani language.
