Sullia, Oct 23: An elephant calf aged around one year was found dead at Harladka in Thodikana village.

The calf died in the plantation of Chandrashekar at Harladka. A herd of wild elephants that came from the Bhagamandala reserve forest reportedly entered the plantation and damaged coffee and banana crops.

As the plantation is located on elevated terrain, the calf is believed to have slipped and fallen while the herd was returning to the forest. It is suspected that other elephants in the herd may have trampled the calf, leading to its death.

The incident has caused concern among local residents. The exact cause of the calf’s death is yet to be ascertained.
