Moodbidri, Sep 7: After allegedly remaining on the run for nearly seven years without appearing before the court, a 38-year-old warrant accused in a temple theft case was arrested in Tiruppur, Tamil Nadu, and produced before the Moodbidri court on Monday.
The accused has been identified as Nagarajan (38), son of Selva Raj, residing at House No. 367/B-3, Shastri Street, Tiruppur village, Tiruppur district, Tamil Nadu.
The case relates to Mulki Police Station Crime No. 70/2018, registered under Sections 454, 457 and 380 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) in connection with a daivasthana (temple/shrine) theft.
The case is pending before the senior civil judge and JMFC Court, Moodbidri, as C C No. 462/2023.
According to the police, Nagarajan had been evading the court and had not appeared before it for around seven years. The court had subsequently issued an arrest warrant and proclamation against him.
Acting on the warrant, police traced Nagarajan to Tiruppur district in Tamil Nadu and arrested him. He was brought before the Moodbidri court on Monday and produced before the court in connection with the case.
The court, after hearing the matter, remanded Nagarajan to judicial custody.
