Karkala: Man held over alleged provocative video targeting MLA Sunil Kumar

Karkala, Sep 13: Karkala Rural police have registered a case against a man for allegedly posting a provocative video on Facebook depicting Karkala MLA V Sunil Kumar in a manner suggesting that he should be attacked and killed.

According to a complaint filed by Vighnesh Prasad Rao of Karkala taluk, he noticed the video on Facebook at around 10 pm on September 12. The video, allegedly posted from a Facebook account in the name of Prasad Shetty, reportedly featured an edited image of MLA Sunil Kumar with his head depicted as severed.

The video allegedly contained abusive and provocative audio along with a film song and was edited in a manner that appeared to call for an attack on the MLA.

The complainant alleged that the post was intended to provoke the public, disturb peace and public order, and incite people against the elected representative.

Based on the complaint, Karkala Rural police registered a case under Sections 55, 192, 351(3) and 353(1)(c) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, in Crime No. 74/2026.

The accused, identified as Prasad Shetty, has been arrested and will be produced before the jurisdictional court.
