Kaup, Sep 15: Kaup MLA Gurme Suresh Shetty inaugurated the ‘Rapid Chess Tournament 2026’, organised by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Udupi District Minority Morcha as part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday celebrations, at the Old Marigudi Temple Hall in Kapu on September 13.

Speaking on the occasion he said, "Chess is a game of intelligence. It will help the children to grow their intelligence. Ot is a good initiatev that the minority morcha is organising such a unique completion. The outdoor games require physical strength but the chess requires mental intelligence".

Addressing the gathering on the occasion Kuthyar Naveen Shetty, president Udupi district BJP said, "Udupi district minority morcha is organising mang inclusive programmes with the minority community. Earlier it had organized ‘Mann Ki baat' programme for the priest and nuns and the minority community had participated in large number. This unique chess competition organized on the occasion of PM Narendra Modi's birthday is a month-long programme which will be held in all the five constituencies of the Udupi district."

Udupi district minority morcha president Rudolph D’Souza said, "The chess competition is getting very good response across the constituencies. More than 190 students had participated in the competition held at Karkala and more than 130 students have registered at Kaup constituency. In upcoming weeks the same competition will be held in Kundapur, Byndoor and Udupi constituency. We are expecting a large participation from students in these competitions."

Udupi District Minority Morcha president Rudolph D’Souza, Kapu Mandal BJP president Jitendra Shetty, State BJP Mahila Morcha general secretary Shilpa G Suvarna, former MLA Lalaji R Mendon, District BJP Minority Morcha vice-president Haider, Kapu Mandal BJP Minority Morcha president Nazir, Kapu Mandal BJP general secretary Sharan Kumar Mattu and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
