Pant misses West Indies series as India name ODI, T20I squads

Daijiworld Media Network - Mumbai

Mumbai, Sep 16: The Indian cricket team has announced its 15-member squads for the upcoming ODI and T20 International series against the West Indies, beginning September 27.

Rishabh Pant, who was being considered for a return to the Indian team in the absence of Shreyas Iyer, has not been included in either squad. Dhruv Jurel has instead been selected in the ODI squad.

Pant will lead the Rest of India side in the upcoming Irani Cup.

Nitish Kumar Reddy, who had been included in India's Asian Games squad, has been withdrawn from that team and added to the ODI squad. The move comes with Hardik Pandya yet to regain full fitness.

India's ODI squad: Shubman Gill (captain), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ruturaj Gaikwad, KL Rahul (vice-captain), Dhruv Jurel, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Prasidh Krishna, Gurnoor Brar, Mohammed Siraj, Auqib Nabi, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Naman Dhir.

India's T20I squad: Shreyas Iyer (captain), Abhishek Sharma, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Ishan Kishan (wicketkeeper), Sanju Samson (wicketkeeper), Tilak Varma (vice-captain), Shivam Dube, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Ravi Bishnoi, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Arshdeep Singh, Prince Yadav and Mayank Yadav.

Mayank Yadav and Prince Yadav have returned to the T20I set-up, with Jasprit Bumrah rested for the series. Yash Thakur has failed to retain his place.

Kuldeep Yadav has also been recalled, while Varun Chakaravarthy has been ruled out of the series due to a side strain.

Rohit Sharma has retained his place in the ODI squad despite questions over his future in the format. The Mumbai batter strengthened his position with a match-winning innings at Lord's against England.

Yashasvi Jaiswal has also been included in the ODI squad, keeping open another option at the top of the order.

Auqib Nabi has received his maiden ODI call-up following his impressive performances in County cricket. Naman Dhir has also been included, while Ruturaj Gaikwad returns to the ODI squad and could bat at No. 4 in the absence of Iyer.

The West Indies series will begin on September 27.
