Mangaluru, Sep 20: The U-17 boys’ and girls’ teams representing Infant Mary English Medium High School, Katipalla, emerged winners in the Dakshina Kannada district-level Kho Kho tournament held at the school.
Inaugurating the tournament, Mangaluru North MLA Dr Bharath Shetty said sports play an important role in strengthening both the mind and body and stressed the need to encourage students to actively participate in sporting activities from a young age.


National-level athlete Sonal D’Mello inaugurated the tournament. School correspondent Fr Santosh Lobo delivered the blessing. District physical education officer Vishnu Narayana Hebbar, Mangaluru North Zone Physical Education Inspector Jeevan Kumar Shetty, school head Francis D’Cunha and organising secretary Vinyas were present.
The Mangaluru North Zone teams, led by Infant Mary English Medium High School, emerged victorious in both the boys’ and girls’ categories. Swami Vivekananda High School of Puttur Zone secured the runners-up position in the boys’ category, while Sri Gopalakrishna High School, Bilinele, finished runners-up in the girls’ category.
Infant Mary School’s Tripti C Shetty and Aditya Peter Lakra were selected as the best all-rounders, while Kannika Shetty and Varshith G Shetty were named the best chasers.
Poornavi of Sri Gopalakrishna High School and Yashwin of Puttur Vivekananda High School received the best runner awards.
