Nagoya, Sep 25: India secured a gold and a silver in shooting at the Asian Games 2026 on Friday, with Suruchi Inder Singh and Kamaljeet winning the 10m air pistol mixed team title and the men's 50m rifle 3 positions team claiming silver.
Suruchi and Kamaljeet produced a record-breaking performance in the 10m air pistol mixed team final, combining for 484.6 points to win India's second gold medal of the Games. Their score also set a new Asian record. South Korea finished second with 478 points, while Iran took bronze with 415.8 points.
The Indian pair maintained their lead through much of the final and held off a late challenge from South Korea to finish 6.6 points clear of their nearest rivals.
Suruchi and Kamaljeet had earlier topped the qualification round. They scored 196 points in the opening series and reached 391 after the second series before adding another 196 to finish with 587 points and book their place in the final.
India's second shooting medal of the day came in the men's 50m rifle 3 positions team event. Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, Niraj Kumar and Rudrankksh Patil combined for 1,762 points to secure silver. China won gold with 1,766 points, while South Korea claimed bronze with 1,751 points.
Tomar and Niraj also qualified for the individual final after finishing third and fourth respectively in qualification with scores of 589 and 588. Patil scored 585 and finished ninth, missing out on the individual final as only two shooters from each country can qualify.
The two shooting medals further strengthened India's medal tally at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.
