Commercial LPG prices rise by over Rs 60 ahead of festive season

Daijiworld Media Network - New Delhi

New Delhi, Oct 1: Commercial LPG cylinder prices have been increased from October 1, with the price of a 19-kg cylinder rising by Rs 62.50 to Rs 71.50 across major cities, just ahead of the festive season. The increase is expected to raise operating costs for hotels, restaurants, caterers and other businesses that rely on commercial LPG.

In Delhi, the price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder has increased by Rs 62.50, from Rs 2,747.50 in September to Rs 2,810. In Mumbai, the new rate is Rs 2,764.50, reflecting an increase of Rs 63.50. In Kolkata, the price has risen by Rs 70 to Rs 2,954, while Chennai has recorded an increase of Rs 66.50, taking the price to Rs 2,983.

In Bengaluru, the 19-kg commercial cylinder now costs Rs 2,898, following an increase of Rs 67. In Patna, the price has risen by Rs 71.50 to Rs 3,100.50. Among the cities listed in the latest price revision, Patna has recorded the highest increase.

The latest increase comes after commercial LPG prices were raised by Rs 9.50 in September. Prior to that, prices had been reduced substantially in July and August, with a Rs 183.50 reduction in July and a Rs 192 reduction in August, before the upward revision in September.

There has been no change in the price of the 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder used by households. In Delhi, the domestic cylinder continues to cost Rs 942, while the rates are Rs 941.50 in Mumbai, Rs 968 in Kolkata, Rs 957.50 in Chennai and Rs 944.50 in Bengaluru.

The hike comes at the beginning of the festive season, when demand for food and catering services generally increases. Higher commercial LPG costs could therefore add to the operating expenses of food businesses, although the actual impact on consumer prices would depend on individual businesses.

India imports a significant share of its LPG requirement, and the Union government has stated that LPG prices are linked to international market prices. According to a Lok Sabha reply in April 2026, India imports about 60% of its LPG requirement, while commercial LPG prices are set independently by oil marketing companies.

The latest revision has not affected household LPG prices, with the October 1 increase limited to the 19-kg commercial cylinder.
