88 of 97 Goa voters file Form 6 after SIR omission

Daijiworld Media Network - Panaji

Panaji, Oct 1: As many as 88 of the 97 voters whose names were left out of Goa's final electoral roll following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) have now submitted Form 6 applications for inclusion, according to the latest update from the Chief Electoral Officer's office.

The remaining nine cases comprise three individuals who hold Portuguese passports and six people who are currently residing outside India, officials said.

The 97 cases had earlier been identified as requiring separate verification or further action after the final electoral roll was published. The CEO's office said each case was being examined individually and the prescribed electoral process was being followed.

Of the 97 cases, 88 Form 6 applications have been accepted. Form 6 is the prescribed application for inclusion of an eligible citizen's name in the electoral roll. The Goa CEO's official website also lists Form 6 for new registration of general electors, while Form 6A is prescribed for overseas Indian electors.

The latest update shows progress from an earlier status in which 81 of the 97 affected voters had submitted Form 6. Officials had earlier said that Booth Level Officers would make house-to-house efforts to contact voters whose names were left out and assist eligible persons with the prescribed application process.

Of the remaining nine cases, three involve people who have reportedly acquired Portuguese passports. Indian citizenship is a requirement for registration as an elector, and the CEO's office is treating these cases separately.

The other six individuals are currently outside India. Election officials are making efforts to establish contact with them and determine the appropriate further course of action, according to the latest update.

The issue came under scrutiny after the final electoral roll following the SIR omitted the names of voters whose cases were subsequently flagged for separate processing. The Goa CEO's office had earlier clarified that the 97 cases were being handled individually.

The official Goa electoral website currently provides access to the SIR 2026 final electoral roll, the list of electors whose names were not included in the draft roll and facilities for voter registration and electoral-roll services.

The latest status means that the electoral registration process has been completed or initiated through Form 6 for the large majority of the 97 cases, while the authorities continue to examine the remaining cases involving Portuguese passport holders and voters residing abroad.
