Mangaluru: St Agnes College clarifies exam schedule following student protest, reschedules dates

Media Release

Mangaluru, Oct 12: St Agnes College (Autonomous) has issued a clarification regarding the October 2026 end-semester examination schedule following a protest by a section of students on Monday, October 12, demanding a postponement due to the Dasara festival.

In a press note, the college administration stated that the exams were scheduled according to the approved academic calendar, ensuring no papers fell on gazetted public holidays. The draft timetable was circulated on September 11, giving students 15 days to raise objections. Since no requests for date changes were received, the final timetable was published on September 26. The schedule also accommodated students' planned internships and projects.

The college noted that it first learned about the proposed protest on October 11 via social media and took precautionary measures by informing the police to ensure campus safety. On Monday, a section of students protested without prior formal intimation to the college authorities.

However, considering the students' concerns and in the larger interest of maintaining a harmonious academic environment, the college has decided to reschedule the exams originally slated for October 19 and 22. The revised dates will be communicated to the students through official channels.

The administration reiterated its commitment to secularism and discipline, warning that any further incidents of indiscipline or disruption of campus peace would be dealt with strictly as per institutional regulations. The principal also expressed gratitude to the district commissioner, police personnel, and the Parents' Association for their support in maintaining order during the situation.
