Mangaluru, Oct 20: The Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has disposed of 785 applications relating to corrections and the issuance of new birth and death certificates during a special drive conducted from October 14 to 19.

According to the Corporation’s Birth and Death Registration section, 841 applications were pending as of September 30. The special drive was organised to expedite the processing of these applications and clear the backlog.

During the six-day drive, 455 applications were processed for corrections, while 62 new birth certificates and 50 death certificates were issued.

However, 47 applications could not be processed due to the non-submission of supporting documents, including caste certificates, SSLC marks cards, school records and joint affidavits from parents.

In another 171 cases, applicants were advised to obtain court orders as the documents submitted were found to be insufficient or unsatisfactory.

A further 56 applications remain pending and are expected to be resolved within the next five days, officials said.

Of the applications disposed of during the special drive, 217 members of the public visited the MCC office in person and collected their certificates.

The Corporation has urged members of the public who are yet to collect their corrected certificates to visit the MCC office during working hours and obtain them.
